about
This song is about crazy old ladies that dance with scarves at music festivals!
It was inspired by it's cover art, a collage called Julie Newman created by Ariana Chriest and written as part of a collaborative project organized by the Black Dog Arts Coalition. Musicians were assigned a work created by a local artist and asked to write a song based on the artwork.
lyrics
Rise
Pulled from the ground
Don’t put her down again
Pull in the tides
Her beauty in spring
It don’t mean a thing
In the throws of November cold
And I once giggled at her dance
At her flailing
But now given the chance
I would age with grace like hers
In paradise
With orange beaked flowers
She wasted each hour
Were you surprised
When she fell again
You’ll never be there where she goes
And I once giggled at her dance
At her flailing
But now given the chance
I would age with grace like hers
